After decades of misinformation, the current administration and federal government are finally preparing to admit what millions of patients already know: marijuana is medicine.
The rescheduling of medical marijuana appears to be on the horizon, but what does that really mean for Florida’s medical marijuana program?
The short answer: not much, aside from opening access to individuals who have previously been restricted.

Frankly, it’s long overdue. The fact that medical marijuana remains a Schedule I drug is, in my opinion, absurd. It’s encouraging to finally see federal leadership acknowledging the plant’s undeniable medicinal value and beginning to correct outdated laws that trace back to the Nixon era.
For now, state programs will remain intact. With more than forty states offering some form of medical marijuana access to patients suffering from debilitating conditions, the timing for reform is right, but meaningful change will take time.
Until new federal legislation is introduced to expand or unify these programs, Florida’s system will continue to operate under its current structure. State law requires patients to meet in person with a certified medical marijuana physician for their initial certification. This rule was established to prevent technology companies from bypassing safeguards through telemedicine for first-time evaluations.
However, follow-up visits required every seven months (or 210 days) can be conducted via telemedicine, offering convenience and continuity of care for established patients. If you’re already a My Florida Green patient, you know that we’ve streamlined this process with our robust technology and made it affordable and effortless for all.
So if you’re waiting for marijuana to be rescheduled before applying for your medical card, there’s no reason to wait. The Florida program is here to stay, and while federal changes are welcomed, they will not immediately alter the rules governing our state’s medical marijuana patients. Compared to other states, Florida’s program is complex, but our platform simplifies the process for both patients and physicians, keeping everything compliant and easy to navigate.
Marijuana Rescheduling is just the beginning. The real goal should be nationwide access guided by consistent medical standards that protect both patients and physicians, while expanding the research and innovation this industry deserves.
At My Florida Green, we’re proud to lead that mission, helping Floridians access safe, legal, and compassionate care under existing law. If you qualify for medical marijuana, don’t wait for Washington. Get certified today and take control of your health with confidence.
