How long will this process take before I can receive my Medical Cannabis recommendation?

In the state of Florida, you are required to establish a bonafide relationship with a physician before they can provide a medical cannabis recommendation. You must have a qualifying condition with medical documentation. The 90 day rule has been removed from the process, however patients should expect a 30 minimum turnaround for the Office of Marijuana Use to issue the state Medical Marijuana card.

What conditions are considered eligible for a recommendation?

With the passing of Amendment 2, the chances of qualifying have greatly increased. CLICK HERE to see if you have a debilitating condition that qualifies.

How do show residency if I am a seasonal resident?

Patients that qualify as seasonal may use two of the following to establish residency:

  1. A deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, mortgage payment booklet, or residential rental or lease agreement.
  2. One proof of residential address from the seasonal resident’s parent, step-parent, legal guardian or other person with whom the seasonal resident resides and a statement from the person with whom the seasonal resident resides stating that the seasonal resides does reside with him or her.
  3. A utility hookup or work order dated within 60 days before registration in the medical use registry.
  4. A utility bill, not more than 2 months old.
  5. Any other documentation that provides proof of residential address as determined by department rule.

Can seasonal residents receive Medical Marijuana in Florida?

Florida law allows “seasonal residents” to obtain medical marijuana if they reside in the state for at least 31 consecutive days during the calendar year and own property in the state of Florida.

What types of payment are accepted?

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and cash are all acceptable forms of payment.

Is insurance accepted?

While Medical Marijuana is now totally legal under Amendment 2 in Florida, it is still prohibited under federal law so we are unable to accept any insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid at this time.

Can I get a certification on the day of my initial visit?

Yes.  State Bill 8A of the Florida Statute has removed the 90 day wait for patients to receive their certification.  Please keep in mind that all supporting documents and medical history records must be in the chart before the physician can make a recommendation.  If all state required documents are not present then we will be unable to provide a recommendation until your chart is complete.

How long will the appointment take?

You should allow 15-30 minutes for your initial appointment.  Follow-up appointments and re-certifications will take less time than initial visits.

What symptoms can be treated with Medical Cannabis?

Along with the conditions listed in our Qualification Page, Amendment 2 allows licensed MMJ physicians to recommend medical cannabis for medical conditions of the same kind or class as comparable to those listed above.  What does this mean?  If a patient is suffering from symptoms that are similar to those listed and is otherwise qualified, the licensed Florida MMJ doctor can recommend medical marijuana.

  • Chronic pain
  • PTSD
  • Cancer
  • Muscle spasms
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Seizures
  • Nerve pain
  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Spasticity
  • Abdominal pain and constipation
  • Menstrual pain

Please contact our office to discuss whether your symptoms would qualify you to receive medical marijuana.  We will gladly answer any questions you may have while determining if cannabis treatment is right for you.

How does Medical Cannabis work?

Cannabinoids are the therapeutic components of cannabis. The two most commonly studied molecules are THC and CBD. Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system that produces our own endogenous cannabinoids similar to those found in cannabis. There are cannabinoid receptors throughout the human body, primarily in the central nervous system and the immune system, but also in the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and hematopoietic systems as well. Cannabinoids bind to these receptor sites with the ultimate goal of homeostasis, or balance of the human body and its systems. Studies suggest the possibility of multiple therapeutic roles for medical cannabis.

How long will the process take before I get my Medical Cannabis recommendation?

New patients can expect to see the doctor in 24-48 hours, sometimes same-day if schedules allow, and receive their approval notice in 2-4 weeks. This will arrive via email and will enable patients to visit or call any Florida dispensary to order medicine. Physical patient cards usually take 2-3+ months to arrive, but are unnecessary if you have your approval email.
